-
- Clarinet Music More from the previous site, but completely different! A number of pages of sheet music -- some postscript, some GIF, some MUS, etc.
- Herb Wurtzel's FREE RECORDER MUSIC SCORES I can't believe I didn't have this one. A number of scores in standard notation -- for recorder, but will work for other treble clef instruments. Offers what appear to be hand-drawn GIF's -- the one's I checked were in multiple parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor).
- PlayTheGuitar.comYour premiere resource for guitar information and instruction, with an emphasis on acoustic guitar.
- TunesmithFiles.com A great resource for recording artists seeking original material for their next album project.
- VoiceOfTheWeb.comOffering free professional voice prompts for commercial and personal web site builders.
- Clarinet Duo Series Not really a sheet music site, but a source of information and lessons for clarinet players. However, some of the lessons deal with issues beginners face in reading sheet music, so I'm including it in the links. These sound like a good topic for discussion. For example, discussions on "Sight Reading" and techniques to use when playing difficult passages. Note quite sheet music, but possibly of interest to folks interested in sheet music.
- Anna and Luca's If you dig enough, you'll find some JPG scores. They offer a CD-ROM that's supposed to have more music, but they do have some free samples.
- Stephen Klein's Fiddle Web Page Nice site dedicated to Canadian Celtic fiddlers. Contains a number of ABC tunes.
- Christopher Franke Download a GIF of an oboe & piano piece from Franke's new CD.
- Nemo James Neat, a guitar sheet music site that's not tab! I believe these are all original pieces.
- INLUX - Player Piano Download sheet music for a player piano piece.
- Narrow Way A page for a Christian music CD by John Gaughan. He offers a PDF file for one of the tracks, "Love is the Key".
- Flute Music by Herbert Lindholm "Herbert Lindholm was born in Porvoo, Finland in 1946. He studied flute with Juho Alvas at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and completed his Diploma in Flute Performance in 1972. He currently works as the principal flute teacher at the Kuopio Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Finland." A number of GIF's, including many WAV and MIDI's of Lindholm's work.
- Tony K.T. Leung A Canadian composer's page. Tony offers a handful of original pieces -- for flute, cello, soprano, and a saxaphone quartet in PDF format.
- The Pedal Steel Pages No sheet music, but the articles and discussions (E9th theory, tunings, etc) make this qualify as a "Free Sheet Music" site.
- Learn to Play Jazz Piano Scot Ranney's page -- "Offers basics, chord sheets, simple and advanced blues, walking bass, blues licks and advice on practicing." Standard notation lessons along with MP3 examples.
- The Chopin Files Free sheet music, MP3, Wav, and MIDI. Many Opus numbers, download .PDF and play the matching sound file (this always helps me) ... Nice touch!
- Central Park North Canadian Jazz! PDF's.
- The Choral Public Domain Library Many choral works, some with MIDI, Finale or PMX, others with .PDF's.
- Steelpickn's Place More Pedal Steel guitar stuff -- a number of good articles, plus some tab.
- Steel City Some great Pedal Steel stuff -- a great section on E9th and the Nashville Number System.
- Cello Tips and Techniques A number of articles and exercises for cellists.
- A Survey of Bach Suite Editions A nice research article by Tim Finholt. Compares a number of the various editions of Bach's cello pieces. Contains sheet music excerts.
- Music History 102 "A Guide to Western Composers and their Music from the Middle Ages to the Present". An extremely well done article, with bibliography and Real Audio, covering The Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque Age, the Classical Period, the Romantic Era, and the Twentieth Century. Done by Robert Sherrane, Cataloging librarian of The Juilliard School, New York. No sheet music, but very entertaining and educational.
- Euphonium Music Guide A good number of original pieces featuring the euphonium.
- GUITARMASTER I haven't tried this -- but if it works, it's really something. The idea is that you plug your guitar straight into your PC soundcard -- no other hardware required (well, a 1/4 to 1/8 converter, at least). The software will then accept your playing into a wav (okay, that I can buy) -- and then will convert the wav into a MIDI (now that I gotta see). It also produces printed sheet music. There are some samples on the main page -- if these really work, this product's a winner (you can download a demo copy)! The wav was recorded chords, the converted MIDI and sheet music was that same chord sequence. I gotta try this.
- Edward Hines Music Okay, his music is for sale -- but he offers sample sheets of many tunes -- lots of stuff, many different instruments.
- Selection from the Knotted Chord Files Some GIF's of sheet music of tunes played by the Knotted Chords, a folk music dance band.
- ZicWeb: Computer Music on the Web I just found this place; I plan to spend a lot more time here. A great resource for all things computerish and musicish! Including software (shareware and freeware) like MIDI sequencers, score editors, recording tools, wave and synth editors, and plenty plenty more. It's maintained in both French and English, but I believe French is the home language because the English is a little bit fractured (but, hey, it's still a lot better than my French!)
- Accordian Man's Cajun MIDI I'm still searching for Cajun sheet music. This page has a number of transcribed MIDI's of great Cajun tunes ("Jolie Blonde", "Colinda", etc). I grew up in South Louisiana and had a lot of fun with this page. Even though they are MIDI's, you can use a MIDI-to-standard-notation package to print out the sheet music.
- Mamou Jitterbug Instruction When I was a kid, you either waltzed or did a Cajun Two-Step (not to be confused with a Texas Two-Step -- they're different). Now you jitterbug -- this page isn't sheet music, but if you're into Cajun music it's some good stuff to know.
- Sarrusophone Mailing List & Files Bob Greenwade's Sarrusophone Stuff. Lots of information, a mailing list, and some PDF's to download. "Though they're arranged for Tenor, Baritone, Bass, and "Bubba" (contrabass), they should work just fine for SATB saxophone quartet, an equivalent clarinet quartet, or several other combinations of instrument."
- Wolfmusic Publications Mainly classical piano -- their "mission is the publication of classical piano music, by significant composers, that is currently unavailable in modern notation." This is mainly a commercial source, but they do offer some samples of their sheet music, along with some MIDI samples.
- The Classical Source A little bit of everything -- no sheet music (except for links), but many interesting articles and events.
- Ragtime Sheet Music & Books A handful of Ragtime favorites in GIF format! Also images of covers.
- Larry Simmon's Mikado Page How about the whole score to Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Mikado"? Larry does this for a hobby! Download something like 204 plus pages of score in TIF format!
- Carl Flesch Homage Page No sheet music, but very nice for any violin player. Professional and personal information about Carl Flesch, including a list of publications and a discography.
- The Way Famous String Instruments Went Jose Sanchez-Penzo's page -- details famous stringed instruments and their history. A lot of fun.
- Instrument Maintenance with respect to Strings A monograph on aspects of instrument maintenance that relate to the strings.
- Jacks, Pipes & Hammers Early Music -- most for sale, but it does have samples of their GIF facsimile transcripts of early music.
- Paul Tseng in Concert Interesting ... cellist Tseng has recordings of many pieces from his concerts and has free RealAudio files on his website. A couple dozen pieces; I like this idea -- love to find more like this.
- Elias Davidson's Cello Duets Original works; "They are suitable for cello students in their first to fourth years. The pieces can be used in several ways: In lessons (teacher and student); for group teaching and ensemble playing; for playing at student concerts; and for sheer enjoyment by more advanced students." Book for sale, but several GIF examples are given.
- Sestino Macaro's Italian composer Macaro offers MIDI's and Acrobat scores of his choral, orchestral, instrumental, electroacoustic, and children's music.
- Playing Together Van Marissing's page of children's tunes. MIDI's and GIF's; many tunes from the Netherlands!
- Musique Ancienne French site covering ancient music -- moyen age, renaissance, pre-baroque, etc. The site is in French, but non-French-speakers should be able to figure it out. (Hint -- go to "partitions") Offers GIF's, as well as Mozart and Noteworthy files.
- The Amadeus Book of the Violin : Construction, History, and Music Something a little different. This is a book that I recently bought and highly recommend to violinists. It's a high quality, very slick issue. Here's what Amazon Books says it: "Available for the first time in English, this book has long been considered the best single encyclopedia of the violin. All aspects of the instrument are covered, from construction to history to its place in literature, violin playing techniques, and violin virtuosos throughout the ages. 86 illustrations. 69 music examples." I really enjoyed the discussion on violin-makers -- most of what I've seen is seriously dated. This discussion is much more current.
- Jazz Fiddle Wizard Martin Norgaard's site introducting his "Jazz Fiddle Wizard" book to be published by Mel Bay Books. Offers some audio clips, plus some sample sheet music and lessons from his lesson book.
- Paul Copeland's Internet Composer Many styles of original music by this Australian composer: Computer, piano, organ, flute, Christian, etc.
- Classical Guitar Transcriptions Richard Yates's site (He has a Classical Guitar book published by Mel Bay). PDF's to MANY wonderful classical pieces -- also, MIDI's for a bunch of them. Richard also asks for reader feedback -- for instance, he's transcribed Pachelbel's Canon for a guitar duet because of view request. This page is a treasure!
- American Nyckelharpa Association Nice site with a sense of humor -- Nyckelharpa, also known as a "what is that thing?"! Lots of nice stuff about this Swedish instrument, including a great resources page (build or buy your own) with GIF sheet music!
- Tony's Celtic Music Page Great Site! Check out his "Music" link to find many of Tony's personal compositions (in MIDI and GIF), plus his collection of about 2,500 celtic ABC tunes. LOTS of information about Celtic music, intruments, artists, etc, PLUS many many wav samples of artists and tunes.
- Jeff Mallet's Songwrite Site This one isn't a sheet music site as such, but I think it's a great fit. The site offers gazillions of articles, reports, resources, etc for songwriters -- and I think this is a topic folks on this site might find interesting. Start here and you'll find several days worth of surfing!
- La Folia An interesting work -- a tribute to "the most lasting and famous tune in western music. An effort to list all derivations and interpretations of this famous theme." Lots of midi's, wavs, sample GIF's, of many (hundreds? I didn't count 'em all, but it scrolls on and on for a good bit) variations of this tune -- plus discussion, history, etc, etc.
- The Tytheran Lullaby Don't know exactly what or why this is, but it's gif sheet music.
- Darb's Sheet Music Page Darb takes requests -- he'll notate tunes for a reasonable price. Darb also has a couple of free GIF samples you can view.
- Jaymar Instrumental Catalog Many scores for sale -- BUT, you can view much of the score (and quite often the entire score)! Pieces for woodwinds, brass, sax, strings, harp, and piano.
- Ace of Base Sheet Music Several Ace of Base tunes. Not always the entire tune, though.
- Gilbert and Sullivan Archive! I am the very model of a modern Major General! Really cool! "The Archive, which was established in September 1993, includes a variety of G&S related items, including clip art, librettos, plot summaries, pictures of the original G&S stars, song scores, midi and mpeg audio files (which allow you to actually listen to the music), and newsletter articles." Sing along with the midi files!
- Musica Internation - Choral Music An international database of choral music -- mostly a pay service, but they do have a monthly "most favorite selection" where they list an excert of the sheet music. Furthermore, they have an archive of the past "piece of the month"s -- so there are a number of sheet music
excerts.
- Anthem/Italy From an ftp site labelled "Anthems/Italy", sheet music. Does anyone know if this is an Italian anthem?
- Malaysian Anthem Same as previous, but for Malaysia.
- Irish Midi's A good number of Celtic/Irish midi tunes. Use one of the many midi-to-standard-notation programs to list or print out the sheet music!
- Irish and Celtic Midi files Lots of celtic midi's!
- Celtic Midi Links A "links" page to a number of celtic midi sites.
- PipeWriter - Bagpipe Music Publishing! A software package for bagpipe music! They have a demo program, plus a library containing more than 170 tunes.
- Fiddlin' Around Several gifs of fiddle tunes
- MidiNotate Print standard notation from MIDI files. "MidiNotate (for Windows 95, 98, and NT) converts MIDI files to scores that you can then print or view on the screen during playback. If you can get a MIDI file for the song or piece for which you need a score, then all you need to do is open the MIDI file. MidiNotate will automatically convert it into a score."
- Affiliates of the World! Description: Features an excellent UK business opportunity as well as terrific marketing resources and free advertising for you... all on one site!
- Internet Print Music Archive This site offers compositions for sale. The compositions cover a number of instruments. While this is a "pay for music" site, you can view front page samples of many of the works. "the site of the most rapidly expanding archive of sheet music on the internet. Our site allows composers to place their work on display, so that performers can directly access them. "
- Frederic Rossille's MUSICS A site about French composer, Frederic Rossille. Site contains much information about Rossille, as well as scores for several of his compositions (often for piano and a small orchestra!)
